You should apply for a Sri Lanka 'Electronic Travel Authorization' (ETA) online, at least a few days before departure. You should get your approval notice within 24 hours, and you can use this to enter Sri Lanka. If you want to extend your visa, contact the Immigration and Emigration department.
British citizens need a visa to enter Sri Lanka; the best way is to apply for a short-stay visa online via the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). Visas are usually valid for a maximum of 30 days.
Standing at over 200 meters, with over 1,200 steps, Sigiriya usually takes 1.5 to 3 hours to climb and descent. The site is open daily from 7am to 5:30pm.
The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces clings to the slopes below the rocks.

The best time to watch whales and dolphins in Mirissa is from November to April when the ocean is calm and warm. Whales are known to migrate around the southern end of the island during these months too; increasing your chances of spotting a gentle giant.
When to go whale watching in Sri Lanka. You can see up to ten different species off the Sri Lankan coast, including fin, Bryde's, minke, humpback, sperm, and of course a plethora of dolphins, between late November and mid April.
You may visit Unawatuna anytime between October to April for a stable climate and to avoid the heavy monsoon showers. However, the best time to explore the beauty of the place is between February to April when there is deficient rainfall.
