Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has confirmed that plans to develop a Disneyland-scale entertainment project in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) are real and actively being studied by the relevant agencies.
In response to doubts about the feasibility of such a large project, Phiphat stated the proposal is not a “fantasy.” It is a concrete initiative being evaluated as part of broader development goals for the EEC, which includes key provinces such as Chon Buri, Rayong, and Chanthaburi.
Officials describe the project as a Global Entertainment & Lifestyle Hub rather than just a theme park. It aims to include not only a Disneyland-style attraction but also a world-class concert hall and an international-standard stadium with a capacity of at least 80,000 seats for major sporting events and concerts.
Deputy PM Phiphat emphasised that the development would not include a casino, focusing instead on family-friendly tourism. The plan aims to make Thailand more appealing as a destination for music, sports, and year-round tourism while creating jobs and attracting international visitors.
Preliminary feasibility studies are already in progress, and the government plans to explore a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model that could combine global expertise and investment with government oversight. The EEC was selected for its infrastructure, including international airports, rail connections, and deep-sea ports, which provide access to Bangkok, Pattaya, and other important tourism centers.
Officials view this initiative as part of Thailand’s strategy to turn the eastern region into a global tourism and entertainment hub, which supports economic diversification and raises the country’s profile in the competitive Southeast Asian tourism market.
