Train services in southern Switzerland were suspended after an avalanche hit near Goppenstein in the canton of Valais, disrupting travel in the alpine region.
Swiss Federal Railways confirmed that services along the affected route were temporarily stopped as emergency crews assessed the area and ensured the safety of passengers and infrastructure. At the time of the incident, there were no immediate reports of serious injuries.
The avalanche reportedly affected rail operations in the mountainous corridor, which is a key link for both domestic travelers and international visitors heading to popular alpine destinations.
Authorities stated that the suspension was a precaution while tracks were cleared and structural inspections were done. Replacement bus services were arranged for passengers during the closure.
Heavy snowfall and unstable winter conditions have raised avalanche risks across parts of Switzerland in recent weeks. Officials have warned of increased danger in higher-altitude areas.
Travelers passing through the Valais region have been advised to check live rail updates and allow extra time for their journeys as services gradually resume.
