Grand Canyon, Arizona (October 1, 2025). After being closed for nearly three months due to the Dragon Bravo Fire, the Grand Canyon’s North Rim reopened today, allowing visitors to experience some of its most breathtaking views once again.

The National Park Service confirmed that Point Imperial and Cape Royal, two popular overlooks, are now open to the public. Access is limited to daytime hours only, and overnight stays are not allowed except at designated backcountry sites like Swamp Point and Fire Point. The North Rim will stay open until November 30, 2025, depending on the weather.

Officials noted that the reopening comes with strict safety guidelines. Much of the area is still closed due to dangerous conditions. There are burned trees that might fall, unstable terrain, and flash flood risks. Visitors should also remember that there are no public services available on the North Rim right now, with no electricity, running water, or cell service in operation.

The Dragon Bravo Fire, started by lightning in July, became one of the most destructive wildfires in Grand Canyon history. It burned more than 227 square miles (589 km²), destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, several cabins, and essential infrastructure. The management of the fire has raised national concerns, with Arizona officials calling for an independent investigation to see if it should have been contained sooner.

Despite the loss, today’s reopening is an important step in recovery. Park officials urged visitors to come prepared, stay cautious, and follow the restrictions as work continues to restore the North Rim.
